Ryan Raplee

I'm an almost 4th year IT student here at RIT. I'm currently concentrating on web development and a custom concentration that is still to be determined. I have been doing web development as a hobby and freelancing since I was 15, I'm now 23, so around 8 years. I only recently started developing dynamically with PHP, about 2 years ago. I'm still not the greatest with it because I mainly taught myself, so there is still a lot to be learned in this class. I always mainly focused on web design in Photoshop and had other people to code my work. I realized that I could be making a lot more money if I could do it all on my own.

I spend most of my time doing homework, freelancing, watching sports, playing video games, going to the movies, and hanging out with friends. I typically try to see one new movie a week, I'm sort of addicted. I'm also an owner and the developer of an MMORPG media website, Rerollz, which keeps me busy as well.

Over the summer and during the fall I completed my first co-op, though it was a double block. I worked at Larson Design Group, an Engineering firm in Williamsport, PA. I worked in their IT department on various things, mainly custom application development and web development. I learned a lot about what it takes to work a professional atmosphere and I plan to return in the summer and potentially after graduation.

Opinion: Biggest Win/Fail for a game in 2010

Their were a ton of new games released in 2010, but in my opinion the best game was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The game is outstanding. But the funny thing is, my biggest fail for 2010, also goes to MW2. They for some odd reason thought it would be a great idea to not allow dedicated servers. Fail.
USB 3.0 SuperSpeed at CES 2010

At CES 2010 the USB 3.0 technology was being demo'd. "On the other end of this one was a Buffalo external enclosure stuffed with an old-fashioned, platter-based hard disk, which still delivered perfectly absurd transfer rates of about 135MB/sec. When another, similar setup ran with an Intel SSD what happened the results were even more impressive: a few ticks over 200MB/sec." Yea, that's fast. I can't wait for this technology to become mainstream. Read more on it here.
